Common Queries

Are your courses suitable for total beginnners?

We specialise in teaching total beginnners. The courses are designed to teach you the foundations of pole, building your strength, flexibility and skill.

You don't need any previous experience. You'll build strength from scratch through a carefully designed lesson plan.

I can't lift my own bodyweight, can I still join in?

You don't need to be able to hang, or do a pull-up to start pole. We were all beginners once.

Bodyweight strength is built up bit by bit, starting with your feet firmly on the ground.

Building bodyweight strength is slightly different from weight training - in that your bodyweight is the weight. So we need to employ different techniques to weight training.

Moves are adapted to your current ability, allowing everyone (regardless of body shape and size) to build strength.

Can I do pole if I'm pregnant/recently had a baby?

This class is not suitable for those who are pregnant or trying to conceive. If you have been pregnant in the past 6 months, you will need to be signed off from your healthcare provider.

What Should I wear?

Form-fitting shorts are recommended. Loose clothing can become dangerous as it can become trapped between skin and the pole. Wear appropriate undergarments, as the pole tends to shift clothing.

Do not moisturise before class or use any lotions or oils.

Remove all jewellery (including wedding rings), buckles, etc.

Do I have to wear shorts?

Beginners are welcome to wear leggings or joggers instead of shorts. Some people prefer more comfortable wearing cycling shorts in the beginning.

We recommend shorts as you progress, as bare skin sticks to the pole, and allows you to perform more advanced moves.

Am I too old to do pole?

There's no upper age limit! Pole is inclusive, and we welcome all ages, shapes, & sizes.

Do you do PAYG?

We run a range of courses and one-off workshops. Courses are 4 weeks long and aim to help you build strength, flexibility, and skills over that time.

If you're booking a course for the first time, please select a beginners pole course, and the "one month" membership option.

Do you do 121s?

Whether you feel too nervous to try out a pole class, or you'd like to work on something specific with an instructor, private lessons might be for you.

We provide private lessons for 1-2 people. If you can't find a suitable time on the timetable, please contact us to book a mutually convenient time.

**Please do not book privates on the booking system without arranging with your instructor first, otherwise Sessions may be cancelled.

We want to make pole as inclusive as possible and will make adaptations, and work with you where possible. If you're unsure whether pole is for you, please contact us so that we can discuss your specific needs.

121 sessions may be a great place to start, as the session can be completely tailored to your needs.

Do I have to be a member at Rise Gym to join classes?

Nope, you don't need to be a member. Pole classes are separate from the Rise Gym membership. Classes must be booked directly through us.

I'm not a beginner, what class is best?

We run mixed ability, intermediat-advanced classes, and workshops. If you've done pole before, and you're confident with spins, climbs, sits and inverts, please contact us directly to book a class.
